Hart moved every bin day over Christmas 2025 and was back to normal on 19 January. The 2026 table is due in December; here is last year's, plus tree points.
Hart District Council has not yet published its Christmas 2026 bin schedule, and on last year’s form it will be late: the revised table for Christmas 2025 was announced on Tuesday 23 December 2025. What that table shows is worth knowing now. Every rubbish, recycling and food waste collection from Christmas Day onwards moved by one to four days, and rounds did not return to normal until Monday 19 January 2026. Garden waste stopped for two weeks. This page sets out last year’s pattern, the Christmas tree drop-off points and the tip’s holiday hours, and we will replace it with the 2026 dates the day Hart publishes them.
The quick answer
- 2026 dates: not yet published. Hart released last year’s revised schedule on 23 December 2025; we will update this page when this year’s appears.
- Last year, collections slipped by up to four days from Christmas Day and only went back to normal on Monday 19 January 2026.
- Garden waste paused for two weeks, from 25 December 2025 to 7 January 2026, and real trees went out with the green bin afterwards or to one of eight free drop-off points from 2 January.
How Christmas 2025 worked
This is the revised schedule for rubbish, recycling and food waste on Hart’s Christmas 2025 page. Collections before Christmas Day ran as normal.
| Usual collection day | Revised collection | Change |
|---|---|---|
| Thursday 25 December | Monday 29 December | Four days later |
| Friday 26 December | Tuesday 30 December | Four days later |
| Monday 29 December | Wednesday 31 December | Two days later |
| Tuesday 30 December | Friday 2 January | Three days later |
| Wednesday 31 December | Saturday 3 January | Three days later |
| Thursday 1 January | Monday 5 January | Four days later |
| Friday 2 January | Tuesday 6 January | Four days later |
| Monday 5 January | Wednesday 7 January | Two days later |
| Tuesday 6 January | Thursday 8 January | Two days later |
| Wednesday 7 January | Friday 9 January | Two days later |
| Thursday 8 January | Saturday 10 January | Two days later |
| Friday 9 January | Monday 12 January | Three days later |
| Monday 12 January | Tuesday 13 January | One day later |
| Tuesday 13 January | Wednesday 14 January | One day later |
| Wednesday 14 January | Thursday 15 January | One day later |
| Thursday 15 January | Friday 16 January | One day later |
| Friday 16 January | Saturday 17 January | One day later |
Three Saturdays were used as collection days: 3, 10 and 17 January. Christmas Day and New Year’s Day fall on a Friday in 2026, a day later in the week than in 2025, so this year’s table will not be a copy of last year’s.
Garden waste and Christmas trees
Garden waste stopped altogether from Thursday 25 December 2025 to Wednesday 7 January 2026 and restarted on Thursday 8 January on the normal day and week, not the revised one. Hart warned that some households would not be due until the following week. Collections on 22, 23 and 24 December went ahead as normal.
If you subscribe to the green bin, a real tree goes out with it once the service restarts. If you do not subscribe, Hart ran eight free tree drop-off points from Friday 2 to Saturday 31 January 2026:
- Blackwater: Memorial Hall, Hawley Green, in the car park at the rear, GU17 9BW
- Crondall: the Bowling Alley, on the grass opposite Pankridge Street, GU10 5RL
- Edenbrook: Country Park car park, The Brambles, Fleet GU51 5DW
- Ewshot: Village Hall, Tadpole Lane GU10 5BX
- Fleet: Church Road car park GU51 4ND
- Hook: Crossway Manor car park, Reading Road, opposite the White Hart, RG27 9DU
- Odiham: Colt Hill, in the lay-by at the very end of London Road, RG29 1AL
- Yateley: Town Council offices, Reading Road GU46 7RP
They take real trees only: no artificial trees, no decorations, and nothing over 1.8m unless it is cut in half. The trees are turned into soil conditioner and wood chippings for Hart’s parks.
Extra rubbish and recycling
Hart’s rules for the holiday, from the same page:
- Extra rubbish is taken on the first collection after Christmas only, in bags next to the black bin.
- Extra recycling can go out at any time in a clear bag next to the blue bin. Flattened, clean, dry cardboard up to 70cm by 70cm can go out loose.
- Food waste must be inside the caddy. Extra bags beside it are not collected, and the turkey carcass goes in a bag inside the outdoor caddy.
- Glass goes in the crates. Overfilled crates and loose glass are left. You can order more crates online or collect them from the Civic Offices on Harlington Way in Fleet, Hook Parish Council at Ravenscroft, Yateley Town Council on Reading Road or the Key Centre at Elvetham Heath.
- Wrapping paper cannot be recycled unless it is plain brown paper. Cards and tags can go in without glitter. Small electricals can be left in a bag on top of either bin.
The council’s offices were closed on 24, 25 and 26 December and 1 January last year, according to its festive changes notice. The emergency out-of-hours housing line was 01252 774477.
The tip over Christmas
The Hartley Wintney household waste recycling centre on Springwell Lane (RG27 8BW) is run by Hampshire County Council. It opens seven days a week but closes on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day. Winter hours, from 1 October to 28 February, are 9am to 4pm, and it closes daily from 1pm to 1.30pm. Every visit must be booked. (Hampshire County Council, Hartley Wintney HWRC)
